Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, ended its 2012-13 academic year with a commencement ceremony at Erie Insurance Arena on Friday, May 3. The college conferred 671 degrees.

What happens when a student has strong interests in two vastly different fields of study? How does the student choose a path? Josh Laughner decided not to choose and successfully pursued degrees in both chemistry and music.
Laughner, a resident of Wadsworth, Ohio, recently graduated as the Penn State College of Arts and Architecture student marshal, having earned the highest overall grade-point average in the college. He earned a bachelor of music composition in addition to a bachelor of science in chemistry from the Eberly College of Science.

Bonnie Ford, quality assurance laboratory specialist in Penn State's Department of Food Science, recently accepted the 2013 Dairy Laboratory of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Milk, Food, and Environmental Sanitarians. Ford is responsible for the operation of the Berkey Creamery's Dairy Testing Laboratory.

Literary scholar contributes to new 'Gatsby' film

West III, the Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of English, has played a key behind-the-scenes role as a consultant to the director and cast of the upcoming Warner Brothers film "The Great Gatsby." West is general editor of the Cambridge Edition of the Works of F. Scott Fitzgerald, and published Trimalchio: An Early Version of "The Great Gatsby" in 2000.
