Ten women scientists from five African countries will share their perspectives on indigenous knowledge at a presentation on April 24, in the University Libraries. "Bringing indigenous knowledge of the people of rural Africa into the academy: a presentation" will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Foster Auditorium, 102 Paterno Library.

Undergraduate students with an interest in information or library science may apply now for a University Libraries scholarship, which can help with current school costs.

National Library Workers Day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, and is an opportunity for everyone to thank librarians and staff for their good work and contributions to library services throughout the year.

This seminar is the latest event in an ongoing speaker series sponsored by the Interinstitutional Consortium for Indigenous Knowledge and the Social Sciences Library. Presenter Michael Fortunato is a post-doctoral research associate and lecturer in the Center for Economic and Community Development at Penn State.

Rachel Simon, award-winning author will give a presentation titled "Perspectives on Intellectual Disabilities," from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, in the Katz Auditorium in the Law School on the University Park campus of Penn State. She will focus on her life experiences growing up with her sister Beth. Their relationship formed the basis for "Riding the Bus with My Sister," a film that will be shown from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, in the Foster Auditorium, 102 Paterno Library, also on the University Park campus.

The 13th annual An Evening of Pennsylvania Poets: Readings in Celebration of the Public Poetry Project will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 26, in Foster Auditorium, 102 Paterno Library, and be followed by a reception and poster signing.

The University Libraries' Library Faculty Organization (LFO) voted March 13 to issue a statement of support for MacMaster University librarian Dale Askey in the lawsuit brought against him by Herbert Richardson and urged other libraries to follow suit. The suit brought by Richardson, founder of the Edwin Mellen Press, is over alleged defamatory remarks about him personally.
