Brandywine students raise $2,800 for THON
Fundraising for this year's Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon kicked off Sept. 28 with the first canning weekend, and Penn State Brandywine Benefitting THON raised more than $2,800. Sophomore Finance major Chris Kramer says this weekend was a great start to what he hopes to be a record-breaking year for Brandywine THON.

On Sept. 29 and 30, approximately 50 Penn State Schuylkill students raised $14,295.98 in a weekend of canning in Schuylkill County.
The making of 'Why We Dance': Documentary captures the story of THON
The Penn State Public Broadcasting documentary "Why We Dance: The Story of THON" debuted Thursday (Sept. 27) on WPSU-TV and on public television stations across Pennsylvania. The one-hour documentary -- which captured a year in the life of several of the 15,000 Penn State student volunteers and one the many Four Diamonds families whose children receive or have completed pediatric cancer treatments at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center -- is now viewable on YouTube and Vimeo. Several video production team members, including Penn State students, and individuals featured onscreen share their experiences of documenting the events of the largest student-run philanthropy in the world.

Students to participate in first 2013 THON canning weekend
To raise money for THON 2013, Penn State Lehigh Valley students will have their first canning weekend on Sept. 28 to 30. From 6 a.m. to dusk, more than 15 students will be outside of multiple Dunkin' Donuts locations along Hamilton Boulevard in Allentown, as well as the Walmart stores in both Trexlertown and Whitehall.

Families hope new THON documentary will inspire others in cancer fight
At just 8 years old, Ashley Fazekas is a veteran of Penn State's annual dance marathon, better known as THON. Ashley was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) as a toddler and had her last treatment at the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital four years ago. Ashley's parents hope a new Penn State Public Broadcasting documentary about THON will inspire others to join the battle against childhood cancer. "Why We Dance: The Story of THON" will air at 8 p.m. Eastern time tonight (Sept. 27) on WPSU-TV and public television stations across Pennsylvania and through a live, online stream of the premiere at http://wpsu.org/. then posted to Vimeo and YouTube at 9 p.m.
Berks holds screenings for premiere of THON documentary
Penn State Berks will hold two special screening events for the premiere of "Why We Dance: The Story of THON," a documentary produced by Penn State Public Broadcasting, at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room, and again at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, in Perkins Student Center Auditorium. In addition, one of the Berks THON families and the Berks THON dancers will be in attendance. This program is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served; however, attendees will be able to make a donation to THON at the event.

The Penn Stater magazine wants to hear alums' favorite THON memories. Is it a special moment with a Four Diamonds child or family? A particularly eventful canning trip? Campus to roll out blue carpet for screening of THON documentary
Penn State Lehigh Valley will roll out the blue carpet for the premiere of "Why We Dance: The Story of THON" on Thursday, Sept. 27 in room 135 at the campus in Center Valley. The event begins at 6 p.m. with photos with the Nittany Lion and free popcorn. The 7 p.m. film screening will be preceded by a short program including THON families, past dancers, and the current campus THON team. Additional movie snacks will be available for purchase with all proceeds supporting campus efforts to battle pediatric cancer.

Penn State Beaver elects SGA officers, THON chair
Officers for the Penn State Beaver Student Government Association (SGA) and the chair of the THON Committee for the 2012-2013 academic year have been announced. Je Qa Powe is president, Dora Tweneboah is vice president, Angelique Matthews is secretary, and Jon Lach is treasurer. Erica DeLuca was elected chair of the THON Committee which oversees fundraising and campus activities in support of the annual Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) for pediatric cancer patients and their families. Beaver students raise more than $7,100 for THON
Penn State Beaver students celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) by raising $7,131.30 for the event, held Feb. 17-19 at the Bryce Jordan Center on Penn State's University Park campus. The Beaver campus total was part of a record-breaking overall total of $10,686,924.83 raised this year by Penn State students. Money raised by THON goes to support the Four Diamonds Fund and its pediatric cancer patients, families, and researchers at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital who are working to find better treatments and, ultimately, cures for forms of cancer that afflict children.

Penn State York shatters THON fundraising record
Penn State York dancers Jimmy Clark, 19, of Red Lion, Pa., and Kara Smith, 22, of York, Pa., danced two nights away and completed the 46-hour annual Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON), Feb. 15 to 17, at the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State's University Park campus. THON raised a record-breaking $12,374,034.46 for the Four Diamonds Fund, topping the $10.6 million raised in 2012. Money raised through THON is used to help children with cancer at the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Penn State York broke its own record by raising $22,550.53 and shattered the previous campus record of $17,160.71.

The Penn State Fayette THON team — a group of 55 Fayette students — raised a campus-record $93,173.48 for THON 2013. This year, THON teams across Penn State campuses raised a combined $12,374,034.46 in an effort to fight pediatric cancer, topping last year’s record $10.6 million.
Penn State Altoona surpasses $100,000 THON goal
Penn State students have more than 12 million reasons to celebrate this week as their fundraising efforts to fight pediatric cancer have paid off in a big way. A record total of $12,374,034.46 was revealed during the Feb. 17 culmination of THON, the 46-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. Penn State Altoona was responsible for more than $100,000 of that, breaking its own goal, being the first commonwealth campus ever to raise that sum, and raising the most of all the commonwealth campuses.

BJC to capacity for THON
Penn State University Police, Bryce Jordan Center and THON staff have announced that the BJC has reached capacity this morning (Feb. 17) for the last day of THON. Patrons who still are in line are asked to return home. Those who need to warm up can visit gymnasium three at the IM Building, on the corner of University Drive and Curtin Road.

Lions drop heartbreaker to Iowa; Chambers pledge nets $14,200 for THON
In a game that came down to the final seconds, Penn State (8-16, 0-12 Big Ten) missed on two late opportunities to tie or take the lead and suffered a 74-72 setback to Iowa (16-9, 5-7 Big Ten) Thursday (Feb. 14) night before a raucous student crowd of 1,420 at the Bryce Jordan Center. Penn State coach Patrick Chambers will donate $14,200 to Penn State Dance Marathon 2013, fulfilling his pledge to donate $10 for every Penn State student who attended the contest on the eve of the 46-hour THON event, which kicks off Friday.
