Continuing Education to offer natural gas, shale industry courses

In an effort to prepare members of the local workforce for job opportunities in the Marcellus and Utica shale industry, the Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education is offering a series of training programs in conjunction with the Shale Training and Education Center (ShaleTEC) at the Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn College) in Williamsport.

ShaleTEC is a collaboration between Penn College and Penn State Extension designed to provide a wide variety of resources to the community as well as the oil and gas industry.

Marcellus Shale training available locally

Individuals and businesses seeking Marcellus Shale training can get the training they need locally through a special partnership of Penn College's Shale Training and Education Center (ShaleTEC) and Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.

The training offered at the Fayette campus features a range of noncredit courses to meet the needs of Marcellus Shale industries in the region.

Tina Sepic, Penn State Fayette's area representative in Outreach and Continuing Education, said "With Marcellus Shale, it's like the Wild West out there. These courses offer local companies the opportunity to become players and grow their businesses, but at the same time they are training their workers in safe and responsible drilling practices."

Beaver campus and ShaleTEC partner to offer Safeland course

The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education and the Shale Training and Education Center (ShaleTEC) at Pennsylvania College of Technology have partnered to offer a SafeLand course in December. ShaleTEC, a collaboration between Penn College and Penn State Extension, provides a wide variety of resources to the community and the oil and gas industry. The SafeLand course will be offered at Beaver campus, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19. The course will also be offered at the same time at other locations on the following days: Thursday, Dec. 13; Tuesday, Dec. 18; Friday, Dec. 21, and Thursday, Dec. 27. This free event is open to the public and will be held in the Penn State Fayette campus' Community Center from noon to 1 p.m.
