Although retired engineering science and mechanics faculty member Sam Zamrik and wife Myrna established their scholarship back in 1992, the couple has decided to boost their endowment with a $50,000 gift pledge.

Coaches and players from both Penn State soccer programs will lead a free, youth soccer clinic Sunday (Jan. 13) in Holuba Hall. Donations toward a scholarship fund honoring 8-year old Mack Brady, who passed away on New Year's Eve, will be accepted.

Lauren Richards, a senior at Penn State New Kensington, was honored Nov. 24 at halftime of the Penn State-Wisconsin football game in Beaver Stadium at University Park.
Richards received the Dietz & Watson Campus Spirit Scholar of the Game award for her success in the classroom and commitments outside the classroom. The Penn Hills resident earned a $500 scholarship, and a $500 donation was made in her name to THON, a student-run charity that benefits the Four Diamonds Fund and the fight against pediatric cancer.
Local Rotarians establish $50,000 trustee scholarship for campus

Five Rotary clubs in the Alle-Kiski Valley joined forces to establish the $50,000 Rotarian Trustee Scholarship at Penn State New Kensington. The scholarship was announced Oct. 23 at Oakmont Country Club during the 75th anniversary celebration of the New Kensington Area Rotary Club. In attendance was Sakuji Tanaka of Japan, who is serving a one-year term as president of the International Rotary. The five local rotary clubs -- Highlands, Burrell, Oakmont, Fox Chapel and New Kensington Area - as well as several individual donors, created the endowment to assist local area students with their chosen career paths.
York faculty member wins communication research and scholarship award

Deborah Eicher-Catt, associate professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State York, is the recipient of the Pennsylvania Communication Association (PCA) 2012 Donald H. Ecroyd Research and Scholarship Award. The award was presented on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the PCA 73th Annual Convention held at Ursinus College, in Collegeville, Pa.
The Donald H. Ecroyd Research and Scholarship Award honors a commitment to and a sustained record of research or publication in the field of communication.

Penn State Beaver recently hosted its annual dinner honoring campus scholarship donors and recipients. Welcome remarks and guest speaker introductions were offered by Chancellor Gary B. Keefer. Speakers were Greg Cerminara, assistant vice president, Michael Baker, Jr., Inc. and vice president, Penn State Beaver Advisory Board, and Adrijana Vukelic, a sophomore psychology major from Aliquippa. Keefer and Dan Pinchot, director of enrollment, presented the scholarship award certificates, and Diana Patterson director of development, provided closing remarks. Scholarship recipients, scholarship donors, and family and friends gathered recently for a special recognition dinner at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. The event, now in its fifth year, provides an opportunity for scholarship recipients to get to know some of the individuals that make a Penn State education possible. This year, 270 Penn State Fayette students were awarded scholarships.
Biomedical Engineering Technology student earns TechNation scholarship

Jamie Connelly, a second-year student in the Biomedical Engineering Technology program at Penn State New Kensington, is the 2012-13 recipient of the TechNation scholarship. The award was based on an essay written by Connelly, whose winning piece was published in the July issue of TechNation magazine by MD Publishing. A single mother of two boys, Connelly juggles family responsibilities and academic requirements, providing a nurturing atmosphere at home while maintaining the regimented schedule in the classroom. She expects to graduate in 2013.

A student in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences will be the first recipient of a scholarship created to honor the memory of Wildlife Conservation Officer David L. Grove, who was killed in the line of duty in November 2010.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 Women In Science and Engineering Research, and Minority Undergraduate Research Experience programs. These undergraduate scholarship programs offer Penn State students the opportunity to work in a research lab with a faculty or graduate student adviser at University Park for two semesters, beginning their freshman year. The application deadline is Nov. 1.

The Alle-Kiski Society of the Penn State Alumni Association awarded $3,200 in scholarships recently to two Penn State New Kensington students, Lauren Richards, of Pittsburgh, and Brandi Ritenour, of Murrysville, Pa. The society's scholarship is funded through the proceeds of the annual alumni golf tournament. In August, the tournament raised a record $9,400 as 83 alumni and friends participated in the 13th annual scramble at The Links at Spring Church.

A member of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation Board of Directors and his wife have created a scholarship at the college. The Mattie Family Scholarship at Penn College, established by Ray Mattie, a 1984 alumnus, and his wife, Michelle, will benefit students from Lycoming County enrolled in the final year of the occupational therapy assistant or early childhood education associate degree majors. The scholarship is building to endowed status and will generate awards of $1,000 to $1,250 when fully funded.
