Velveeta returns to York as part of Penn State York's Homecoming

If you like rock 'n' roll and 80s music, mark your calendar for Friday, Oct. 12, when Velveeta, not the cheese, will perform at 7 p.m. at The Paddock on Market, 3406 E. Market St., York, Pa. This popular State College, Pa., retro-rock band will be doing a one night performance as part of Penn State York's Homecoming Weekend activities. Attendees must be age 21 or older. Tickets are $15.

The event is being sponsored by the Penn State York Alumni Society. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.yk.psu.edu/homecoming or send a check made payable to the Penn State Alumni Society, c/o Penn State York Alumni and Development Office, 1031 Edgecomb, Ave., York, PA 17403.

Plain White T's to perform Oct. 28 at Penn State York's Pullo Center

American rock group the Plain White T's will take to the stage at Penn State York's Pullo Family Performing Arts Center (The Pullo Center) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. Tickets are on sale now and prices are $50 and $37. Penn State York students can purchase one ticket at the special price of $17. Tickets can be purchased at The Pullo Center box office, charge by phone at 717-505-8900, or online at www.pullocenter.yk.psu.edu and www.Ticketmaster.com.

Penn State professor channels rock stars to teach rock science

The music may come out of the 1960s, but an open courseware class available at Penn State that includes a guitar playing and singing professor is definitely designed for the Millennial Generation. Highlighted with video clips, animations and song parodies, Professor Richard Alley's online course "Geology of the National Parks" (GEOSC 10) not only instructs, it also entertains and fulfills general education requirements for undergraduates not majoring in geoscience.
