Residents in the Altoona, Pa. area are invited to record an interview with a friend or loved one that will be preserved for others to hear and enjoy as part of the StoryCorps project, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to recording, preserving and sharing the extraordinary stories of Americans from all backgrounds and beliefs.

The recordings will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., March 14 through 16 in room 128 of the Robert E. Eiche Library on the Penn State Altoona campus.

WPSU-FM is giving locals of all ages the chance to have their original artwork printed and dispersed as a limited-edition poster during the fourth annual "Art for the Airwaves" contest. Artists in the listening area are invited to submit an original work of art that expresses their creative view on people, places, activities and life in central Pennsylvania.

Penn State Public Broadcasting will hold a live radio event/community forum that will address solutions to the issue of excessive and underage drinking in the Penn State and State College communities. "Exploring Solutions to Drinking Culture" will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, in the WPSU lobby at Innovation Park on Penn State's University Park campus. This is a live radio event; those who plan to attend should arrive in time to be seated by 6:45 p.m.

Casey Miller is a senior mechanical engineering major with a passion for politics. From the end of summer until Oct. 6 -- the last day for voters to register in Pennsylvania before the 2008 Presidential election -- the Penn State student registered about 1,100 people to vote through PSUVote.org, a nonpartisan student coalition. Miller's zealousness for democracy has earned her a feature role in an episode of "This American Life," a nationally syndicated radio show produced by Chicago Public Radio. The episode will be broadcast during the weekend of Oct. 25-26.

By putting people in touch with each other electromagnetically, radio creates a set of overlapping communities of the air," writes Susan Squier in the introduction of her new book.
