A free public lecture titled "Races, Faces and Human Genetic Diversity" will take place at 11 a.m. Jan. 19, in 100 Thomas Building. The speaker will be Mark D. Shriver, a professor of anthropology and genetics at Penn State.

The event is the first of six lectures in the 2013 Penn State Lectures on the Frontiers of Science, a free minicourse for the general public with the theme "Your Genes: How They Contribute to Who You Are." No registration is required. The lectures take place from 11 a.m. to about 12:30 p.m. on six consecutive Saturday mornings, in 100 Thomas Building.

Richards, a senior lecturer in Sociology and co-director (along with his wife and colleague Laurie Mulvey) of the World in Conversation Project, explained that if race didn't still matter, people would have no reservations about openly discussing racial stereotypes and differences.

The Penn State Lion Ambassadors will host the 12th annual 5K Moxie-thon, a race against leukemia, beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, on Penn State's University Park campus. The starting line is in front of the Intramural Building. Moxie-thon is a 5K run/walk in memory of Melissa Heydenreich, a past Lion Ambassador who lost her life to leukemia in 1997.
