Audiences nationwide will get a behind-the-scenes look at the largest student-run philanthropy in the world when a documentary on Penn State's IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, better known as THON, debuts on the Big Ten Network this month.

"Why We Dance: The Story of THON," from Penn State Public Broadcasting (PSPB), will air at 10 p.m. Feb. 12, just days before THON 2013 officially kicks off.

Central Pennsylvania fans of the British drama "Downton Abbey" will have an exclusive opportunity to pose questions to the executive producer of the hit PBS series.

Rebecca Eaton will appear as a phone-in guest and field questions from fans on the next episode of WPSU-TV's new show, "After Abbey." The episode will air at 10 p.m. Feb. 3.

Over the course of her career as a producer, Eaton has won 20 Primetime Emmy Awards, 11 Peabody Awards and a Golden Globe. She has served as producer of Masterpiece since 1985.

WPSU-FM is giving locals of all ages the chance to have their original artwork printed and dispersed as a limited-edition poster during the fourth annual "Art for the Airwaves" contest. Artists in the listening area are invited to submit an original work of art that expresses their creative view on people, places, activities and life in central Pennsylvania.

WPSU hosted an advance screening of "Downton Abbey" Season 3 at its studios Dec. 16. The event was free to the public who vied for 150 seats.

All tickets were reserved within three days of registration opening. The event included a station for guests to try on and be photographed wearing Edwardian era hats and a mid-afternoon low tea reception. Many of the guests attended the event in "Downton Abbey"-style costumes.

"Downton Abbey" -- the story of an English manor family adjusting to the changing world of post-war 1920s -- is part of the Masterpiece collection, the longest-running primetime drama on U.S. television. The "Downton Abbey" cast is currently on a publicity tour to promote Season 3, which premieres on PBS stations at 9 p.m. Jan. 6.

The 2012 senior class of Penn State's Musical Theatre program will perform musical numbers fit for Broadway in the broadcast premiere of WPSU's "Music Theatre Spotlight." The show, which airs at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, will feature 13 Penn State students who graduated in May from the program. Two of the students, Paul-Jordan Jansen and Alison Morooney, are former State College Area High School students. Both have gone on to land performance jobs after graduation.

At just 8 years old, Ashley Fazekas is a veteran of Penn State's annual dance marathon, better known as THON. Ashley was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) as a toddler and had her last treatment at the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital four years ago. Ashley's parents hope a new Penn State Public Broadcasting documentary about THON will inspire others to join the battle against childhood cancer.
