Students develop Web solutions for Tanzanian company

Two students at Penn State New Kensington provided the technical wherewithal for "trekkers" to reach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, East Africa, and they didn't venture beyond the Information Technology Center on the Upper Burrell campus. Taylor Transue and James Miller, senior information science and technology majors, created a business model for Trek2Kili, a Tanzanian company that specializes in guiding amateur hikers, known as trekkers, to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. Based at the foot of the mountain, Trek2Kili is a local concern that wants to expand its customer base globally via a website and Internet resources. Working on the project throughout the spring semester, the students' solutions exceeded Trek2Kili's original expectations.

An ancient siege machine will be the focus of an intramural competition between Penn State New Kensington and the Penn State Electro-Optics Center that is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, on Easy Street in Upper Burrell, Pa.
Campus to host York County Science and Engineering Fair March 5-7

Penn State York will host the 29th annual York County Science and Engineering Fair set for Monday through Wednesday, March 5 to 7, in the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center. More than 200 projects will be judged during the event. Projects are open for public view from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7.
Students continue tradition of community outreach on MLK holiday

Penn State Beaver students continued their tradition of taking 'A Day On, Not a Day Off,' as they joined with students from other western Penn State campuses to conduct community services projects on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, Jan. 16. The day is a holiday for Penn State students, but many of them worked in outreach projects throughout the region. Every year students from Penn State's western campuses come together to conduct outreach efforts in their local communities. This year's primary coordinating campus was Penn State New Kensington. Robin Schreck, Beaver's coordinator of student activities and residence life, took Beaver students to New Kensington to work with them in service projects there, but Beaver students also worked on local projects.
