Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute in State College is now seeing patients at the new Lance and Ellen Shaner Cancer Pavilion at Mount Nittany Medical Center. As part of a commitment to provide the highest standards of individualized care for oncology and hematology patients in the Centre County region, Penn State Hershey is partnering with Mount Nittany Medical Center to advance services for the Penn State community. Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine has chosen E. Eugene Marsh, dean of the College of Community Health Sciences at the University of Alabama and associate dean of the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Tuscaloosa campus since 2004, to lead the development of its Regional Medical Campus in State College.

Frederick J. Michel will serve as chief medical officer of Penn State Hershey Medical Group effective in September. Michel obtained his medical degree from the College of Medicine in 1971 and completed his first year residency in Internal Medicine at Penn State in 1972. He brings a wealth of experience in medical group practice leadership, having served in a number of capacities.

Beginning Oct. 1, Penn State Hershey Medical Group will no longer accept Gateway Health Plan (Gateway) for primary care physician services. The Medical Group will continue to accept Gateway for specialty services. To continue to see a Penn State Hershey primary care physician, patients -- including employees who have Gateway coverage -- will need to change their Medicaid Health Plan. Changing your health plan may affect agreements you have in place to see other non-Penn State Hershey Medical Center specialty physicians and on medical equipment you may be using. Your primary care physician and clinic staff can help with these changes. Contact your clinic directly if you have questions about how changing plans may affect you.

A new Web tool gives current and potential patients multiple ways to learn which Penn State Hershey Medical Group practice site has the services they are looking for. Linked from several places on Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center's Web site, all outpatient locations can now be searched by keyword, location (city, ZIP code, or county) or medical specialty. Using the same search interface as our popular Find a Physician Web site makes it easier for visitors to get information about any Penn State Hershey local practice. Practice information includes address, maps and directions, a list of all specialties at each practice location and office hours, phone and fax numbers.
