Lehigh Valley students graduate from Practical Nursing Program

Twenty-six students graduated from Penn State Lehigh Valley's Practical Nursing Program during a ceremony held March 2, at the campus in Center Valley. Judith Chermansky, a classroom and clinical faculty member for the program, provided the keynote address.

Two Penn State Hershey nurses will be recognized and honored as finalists at the annual Nightingale Awards Gala on Oct. 26 in Harrisburg. The finalists from Penn State Hershey are Patti Hart, director of nursing, Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital and Women's Health; and Elizabeth Yaw Bates, instructor, Penn State School of Nursing.

Health Center hosts 'Love Your Heart' event

The Penn State Beaver Health Center and Office of Student Affairs hosted a 'Love Your Heart' event last Wednesday in the Student Union Building and the Brodhead Bistro. The program was designed to increase students', staff, and faculty awareness of heart health issues, including how to prevent heart attacks, how to develop a healthy diet, and ways to keep the heart strong. Sherry Kwater was recently named chief nursing officer for Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She replaces Donna Reck who left the organization in June.

Penn State Beaver will host its annual health fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the lower lobby of the Student Union Building. The event is designed to provide Penn State students and employees with a variety of health-related information and updates. Representatives from various area health care offices will be on hand to talk with visitors. The health fair is sponsored by the campus Health Center and the Office of Student Affairs. Campus will host free town hall meeting on Agent Orange

Penn State Beaver will host a free town hall meeting about the effects of Agent Orange from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in the Student Union Building auditorium. The public is invited to attend the event, which is sponsored by Rep. Jim Marshall of Pennsylvania's 14th Legislative District, and Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA)/ Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA), Chapter 862. Well-known speakers on the topic of Agent Orange will give presentations and distribute information about the genetic legacy resulting from exposure to the herbicide.
