Consol Energy makes $25,000 gift to Penn State Fayette

Consol Energy has presented a gift of $25,000 to Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, in support of the campus' Mining Technology Associate Degree Program. The gift is part of Consol's "Financial Aid to Education" initiative. The mining technology degree program at Fayette provides students the education they need to fast-track into supervisory positions in mining production and maintenance.

Johnstown meeting to explore educational path to mining careers

The Mining Industry Advisory Board at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus is holding a special meeting for area educators and individuals interested in careers in the mining industry beginning at 8:30 a.m. on March 10, at the Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss employment opportunities available in the coal mining industry, many of which can be achieved in as little as two years through the acquisition of an accredited associate degree from Penn State Fayette in mining technology. Representatives from Penn State University, the coal industry, equipment manufacturers, regulatory agencies and prior graduates will be on hand.

Penn State's associate degree program in mining technology is offered only at the Fayette campus. The program provides students with the education they need to fast-track into supervisory positions in mining production and maintenance.

Meet Lawrence Hunchuck, Fayette's newest mining technology instructor

Lawrence A. Hunchuck is Penn State Fayette's newest mining technology instructor. Hunchuck teaches "Mine Plant Technology," "Mine Management" and "Strata Control Methods." He plans to bring "real-world" examples into his classroom to further add to his students' academic experiences.

Mining technology program at Penn State Fayette gains accreditation

The Mining Technology program at Penn State Fayette has received accreditation from the Technology Accreditation Commission (TAC) of ABET Inc. ABET is the only agency sanctioned by the federal government to accredit higher education programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology. Mining Technology Program Coordinator and Instructor Nancy Dorset said gaining the accreditation is a significant achievement for the program that began in 2005 and graduated its first students in May 2007.
