"Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Black History Month," an exhibit featuring posters designed by Penn State students in the University's 28th annual MLK poster competition, will be displayed from Jan. 11 to Feb. 28, in the entry lobby of Pattee Library. This year's theme is "Let Justice Lead and Freedom Roar."

The student posters were created in professor Lanny Sommese's Graphic Design 400 Time and Sequence course. This annual exercise for Sommese's students exposes them to real-world design with a fixed deadline and client and prescribed project specifications. It also gets the students involved in a public service project --something that is very important to Sommese.

Penn State Abington hosted Habitat for Humanity founder Millard Fuller on Thursday, Jan. 22, in coordination with Martin Luther King Day activities. Repeating sentiments expressed by King as well as our nation's newly elected president, Fuller spoke of the importance of civic engagement and responsibility. "Civic engagement is not just something you ought to be involved in; but it is a joyous thing," Fuller said. "It has rewards beyond any words to express how meaningful it is."

Penn State Harrisburg's community observance of Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan. 19 will again include an original dramatic production and a musical celebration. For the 11th consecutive year, the day's observance begins at noon in the Capital Union Building on campus with an original play written by faculty member Dorothy King.
