15-year-old prodigy to speak on pancreatic cancer

Jack Andraka is just 15 years old and has created a potentially revolutionary pancreatic cancer detection tool. This “Thomas Edison of the 21st century,” as he is called by his mentor at Johns Hopkins University, will speak at 7:30 p.m. on April 5, at the Devorris Downtown Center at Penn State Altoona.

Penn State Biomedical Sciences Club conference set for March 23

On March 23, the Penn State Biomedical Sciences Club will hold its fourth annual undergraduate conference. The all-day event will be held on the Life Sciences Building Bridge, and feature six prominent biomedical scientists, including one veterinarian and three physicians, from institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, Penn State Hershey Medical Center and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Plant pathology professor to present talk on American elm diseases

On Saturday, June 15, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Penn State Professor of Plant Pathology Gary Moorman will present a talk and discussion about Dutch elm disease and elm yellows, two diseases that threaten University Park's American elm population, the largest stand of mature elms in the eastern United States. He will also discuss past and future plans to protect Penn State's iconic elms. The talk will be held in Foster Auditorium in Paterno Library. A tour of plants on campus will follow the discussion. The public is welcome to attend.
