Researchers from five universities, including Penn State, received funding to work with families in two test communities and find whether they would change their habits to lessen the impacts of climate change. The researchers will propose more sustainable practices, find which ones are acceptable to the families and use computer models to determine what impacts the changes would have on the environment.
Penn State meteorology professor Jenni Evans studies the powerful, unpredictable nature of hurricanes. Her research group has developed a framework for summarizing hurricane evolution used today by the National Hurricane Center, and NBC Learn, the educational arm of NBC News, recently featured her work.
Research Unplugged, the speaker series that brings Penn State researchers into the community for lively public discussions, will kick off its fall season on Oct. 11 with a talk led by Lisa Gatzke-Kopp on "The ABCs of ADHD: Inside the Brains of Kids with Attention Deficit & Hyperactivity Disorders."
