Men's hockey hosts Oklahoma Feb. 15-16

The Penn State men's hockey team will play its final two games at Greenberg Ice Pavilion this weekend when it hosts the ACHA's Oklahoma Sooners for a two-game exhibition series Feb. 15-16. Opening faceoff Friday is set at 7:30 p.m., while game time Saturday is at 3:30 p.m.

Lions, Army to open Pegula Ice Arena on Oct. 11

Pegula Ice Arena, the state-of-the-art, $90 million facility that will serve as the home to Penn State Hockey, will host its first game Friday, Oct. 11 when the Penn State men's hockey team opens the 2013-14 season against the Army Black Knights. The Friday night contest, which will be the weekend's lone game, will take place during Penn State's annual homecoming weekend.

Men's hockey faces UVM Saturday at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia

The Penn State men's hockey team will travel to the City of Brotherly Love to face off against Vermont Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Wells Fargo Center for the Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff. Puck drop between the Nittany Lions and the Catamounts is scheduled at 8 p.m. The inaugural Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff will be televised live on the Comcast Network with Jim Jackson (play-by-play) and Steve Coates (analyst) on the call. Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia can be found on Comcast Cable SD channel 8 and HD channel 846.

Stroemel to lead U.S. women's hockey at World University Games

Penn State women's hockey director of operations and video coach Mo Stroemel will lead the 2013 U.S. Women's National University Team at the 2013 World University Games in Italy. Stroemel was also in charge of the inaugural 2011 team that placed fourth in Turkey.

The team, comprised of ACHA players, will compete at the tournament in Trentino, Italy, scheduled for Dec. 11-21. Stroemel has been instrumental in the success of hockey at Penn State, serving as an assistant coach on the men's club team from 2004 to 2007 and the head coach of the women's club team from 2007 2011. In all, Stroemel has been connected to Penn State hockey since 1994 in various capacities, including coaching Penn State's ACHA Division II men's team from 1996 to 2004.

Hoenshell nabs CHA Rookie of the Week

Freshman forward Hannah Hoenshell collected College Hockey America Rookie of the Week laurels, the conference office announced Monday (Jan. 7). The award is the first of her career for the Plano, Texas, native, who tallied four points on a pair of goals and assists in a 10-0 win over Chatham Jan. 4.

Men's hockey to host U.S. National U18 Team

The Penn State men's hockey team will return to Greenberg Ice Pavilion Jan. 11-12 when it welcomes the U.S. National Under-18 Team for a two-game exhibition series. Puck drop for both games is set at 7:30 p.m.

Whitlinger takes CHA Rookie of the Week honor

Freshman netminder Celine Whitlinger's (Garden Grove, Calif.) career night at St. Lawrence on Friday translated into her first collegiate honor: College Hockey America Rookie of the Week. Whitlinger earned Penn State's second CHA Rookie of the Week this season.

Hospitality suites available for men's hockey games in Pittsburgh

Alumni and friends of Penn State hockey have access to hospitality rooms for the inaugural Three Rivers Classic, Dec. 28 and 29, at the Consol Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Penn State, in its first NCAA Division I season, opens the tournament at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, against Robert Morris University. Ohio State University faces Miami (Ohio) University at 7:30 p.m. in the second game. The two winners meet in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. the next night. The consolation game is set for 4:30 p.m.

The Penn State Alumni Association (PSAA) and the Nittany Lion Club (NLC) are sponsoring receptions for the Nittany Lion games. Held inside the Consol Center, the two alumni socials are free to tournament ticket holders.

Season ticket deposits for the Penn State men's hockey team's historic first season at Pegula Ice Arena are now being accepted. The future home of Penn State Hockey, the 200,000-square foot facility with a 6,000-seat main arena will open prior to the 2013-14 season. Current and potential ticket holders can place a deposit by calling 1-800-NITTANY Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. or by visiting the Bryce Jordan Center Athletic Ticket Office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Deposits will be accepted for Club, Loge, Bowl and "On the Glass" seating.

Freshman forward Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) was named College Hockey America's Rookie of the Month for her performance during November. Yoxheimer led the Nittany Lions with nine points and helped lead Penn State to a 3-4-0 record last month.

Men's hockey head coach Guy Gadowsky announced Wednesday (Nov. 28) the addition of five future Penn State student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent during the November early-signing period. All five individuals will join the Nittany Lions for the 2013-14 season.

Men's hockey to play Ohio Feb. 1 at Hershey's GIANT Center

The Penn State men's hockey team's game against Ohio University Feb. 1 has been moved to the GIANT Center in Hershey, Pa. Tickets for the 7 p.m. matchup will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30. The two former American Collegiate Hockey Association rivals will face off in Hershey for the front end of a two-game series.

Penn State women's hockey head coach Josh Brandwene formally announced next year's incoming freshman signings on Wednesday (Nov. 14). Minnesota natives Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minn.), Sarah Nielsen (Edina, Minn.), Amy Petersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) and New York product Kelly Seward (Williamsville, N.Y.).
