Ross Lehman, a 1942 graduate of Penn State and executive secretary of the Penn State Alumni Association from 1970-83, once declared that “traditions give a university its heart and substance.” He could easily have been describing Homecoming, which represents some of the longest standing and most cherished University traditions. Penn State will kick off Homecoming Weekend 2015 with the traditional Homecoming Parade at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, and face off against Indiana University at noon on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Schreyer Scholars Josh Bram, John Connolly, Kevin Montminy and Abby Renko will have the honor of representing the student body and will participate in Homecoming events as members of the Penn State Homecoming student court. The week of festivities begins Oct. 4 and concludes with the crowning of a Homecoming king and queen during halftime of the Oct. 10 Penn State football game against Indiana.
Penn State Homecoming will host its 5th annual Legacy Celebration to celebrate the spirit of the upcoming Homecoming season and to welcome the 2015 Honorary Grand Marshal. The Legacy Celebration will take place Wednesday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the ground and first floors of the HUB.
For many, Penn State Homecoming is steeped in tradition — alumni coming back to campus, the parade, the Homecoming court and the football game — but one tradition that might not immediately come to mind is the fact that students are the ones who work year-round to organize the annual celebration.
Penn State students can attend this Saturday's 95th Homecoming game vs. Northwestern at a special price -- two tickets for $40 each with their valid student ID. 1-800-NITTANY (weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m) or at the Bryce Jordan Ticket ticket office (weekdays, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.).
Penn State Homecoming will host its fourth annual Legacy Celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday throughout the ground and first floors of the HUB-Robeson Center to celebrate the spirit of the upcoming Homecoming season and to welcome the 2014 Honorary Grand Marshal.
