Football head coach search committee formed
David Joyner, Penn State acting athletic director, today (Nov. 28)announced the members of the search committee charged with identifying candidates and appointing the 15th head football coach in the program's 125-year history. Penn State President Rodney Erickson appointed Joyner to head the search committee.
Wrestling team prepares to launch inaugural season
Penn State Beaver's wrestling team will launch its inaugural season when the men take on Washington and Jefferson College, 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12 at the W & J Open in Washington, Pa. Wrestling is Beaver's eighth intercollegiate sport. Head coach Jeff Winkle is a graduate of Hopewell High School where he wrestled as a student. He has remained active in Hopewell's wrestling program for 13 years. He holds a master's degree in strategic leadership from Mountain State University and a bachelor's degree in human resources from Geneva College. Changes in women's basketball coaching staff are announced
Penn State Beaver has named Tim Moore interim head coach of the Lady Lions basketball team. Former Head Coach Bert DeSalvo recently left Penn State to become assistant coach for the Clarion University women's basketball program. DeSalvo, who also was assistant athletic director at Beaver, joined the campus in 2007 with the charge to revive the Lady Lions basketball program that lay dormant for two decades. In his first season (2007-08), DeSalvo led the women's team to an impressive 21-8 record (13-3 in the PSUAC), a PSUCA Championship, and a trip to the USCAA National Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. Moore is entering his fourth year with the Beaver women's basketball program where he has been an assistant coach for the past three years.
Basketball team members receive post-season PSUAC honors
The Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) announced post-season honors for the men's 2010-11 basketball season. Two players were recognized along with Head Coach Marcess Williams. Senior David McGarry (Poland Seminary/Poland, OH) earned PSUAC First Team All-Conference honors. Team captain and senior Billy Stoughton (Slippery Rock High School/Slippery Rock, PA) earned PSUAC Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.
