The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer and women's volleyball teams conclude their regular seasons this week with both teams looking to continue to the post-season. The soccer team is looking to lock-up the third-seed in the upcoming Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) playoffs. The volleyball team has the inside track on its first playoff berth since 2008.

Penn State New Kensington junior Adam Stawski (Plum) shot a 2-over 74 for a two-round total of 152 (78-74) to win the Penn State University Athletic Conference individual title at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa. Stawski came back from a three-shot first-round deficit with a one-under 35 on the back nine (his front nine), that included an eagle at the par-5 18th. The PSUAC crown avenged his runner-up finish as a freshman in 2009. As a team, the New Kensington Lions held onto third place in the eight-team conference championships, 12 strokes behind second-place Penn College (339-339-678). Penn State Mont Alto won the title with a 313-336-649 tally. Sophomore Ben Hammel (Riverview) carded an 85-84-169 to finish in eighth place and join Stawski on the PSUAC ALL-Conference team. Senior Matt Schrader (West Shamokin) shot 82-92-174. Freshman Corey Boback (Hempfield) shot his collegiate-best 92 in the final round to secure third place for New Kensington at 348-342-690.

The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team continues its march toward a first regular season conference title at 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 6) when Penn State Hazleton visits for a PSUAC match at Valley High School. The two undefeated teams will be jockeying for the top seed in the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs that begin Oct. 22. The New Kensington Lions sport a 6-0 record, a half-game ahead of Penn College, 5-0. Hazleton is 4-0, one game behind. Under the direction of first-year head coach Pat Cavanaugh, the team is ranked third in the nation in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association poll.

The Penn State New Kensington women's volleyball and men's soccer teams are in the midst of the their conference schedules, and both teams are undefeated in league play. Volleyball team travels east for a pair of conference matches at Penn State York on Saturday, Sept. 29, and a pair at Penn State Schuylkill on Sunday, Sept. 30. The men's soccer team opens a two-game home stand at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, versus Mt. Aloysius in a nonconference game before facing Penn State Brandywine at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, in PSUAC match. Both home games will be held at Valley High School in New Kensington. The golf team concludes its regular season on the road with a PSUAC tournament, the Hazleton Invitational, at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Valley Country Club in Sugarloaf, Pa.
