Nominations sought for International Student Award

The University Office of Global Programs (UOGP) is now accepting nominations for the Ardeth and Norman Frisbey International Student Award. This award honors and recognizes outstanding contributions to international understanding by graduate and undergraduate international students (holding non-immigrant status) enrolled in a full-time academic program at any Penn State campus. Exemplary contributions furthering international understanding consist of academic, athletic or other extra-curricular campus activities and/or community involvement in school or civic group programs or service projects. Past recipients have made contributions in more than one area.

First Friday Series puts spotlight on studying abroad

Ever thought about studying abroad? Penn State York's global programs will offer a presentation Jan. 11 by Penn State students who have spent semesters and summers in other countries. The program is at noon, in the Community Room of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center.

Brandywine program offers chance to study in Ireland

Penn State Brandywine Global Programs will send students on a distance learning and immersion study adventure in Ireland that includes visits to Galway, Belfast and Dublin from March 2 to 10. Students who register by Nov. 22 will receive a $50 discount.

Trustees approve global engagement in South Africa

The Penn State Board of Trustees today (July 13) took a step in support of the University's global engagement efforts by approving the creation of a trust in South Africa to facilitate research, education and outreach, contingent upon approval of the University's Office of General Counsel.

"One of Penn State's strategic goals is to realize our potential as a global university," said Penn State President Rodney Erickson. "We are doing this not by building physical facilities overseas, but rather by selectively partnering with existing universities around the world."

Frisbey International Student Award winners announced

Penn State's University Office of Global Programs (UOGP) is pleased to announce the recipients of this year's Ardeth and Norman Frisbey International Student Awards. Established in the early 1990s by Ardeth Frisbey, who was at the time associate director of the (then-named) International Students Office, this award recognizes exemplary contributions to international understanding by full-time graduate and undergraduate international students. The award honors an undergraduate international student, a graduate international student, and an outstanding student leader. Each award recipient receives a scholarship.

Global Programs holds photo contest, info sessions on studying abroad

Global Programs has several announcements regarding studying abroad. Photographers take note: Global Programs is having a Global Perspectives photo contest. Students who studied abroad should submit their favorite photos for a chance to win $50, a gift certificate to the State Theatre or the Creamery. Deadline for submission is Monday, March 19.

2012 Spirit of Internationalization Award winners announced

Penn State's University Office of Global Programs (UOGP) announced Thursday (March 8) the winners of the 2012 Spirit of Internationalization Awards.

These annual awards honor women from Penn State University and the local community who embody the "Spirit of Internationalization" through academic achievements, artistic excellence, volunteerism in international organizations, or dedication to advancing the status of women.

Award winners to be recognized at International Women's Day Breakfast

Penn State's University Office of Global Programs (UOGP) has announced the winners of the 2012 Spirit of Internationalization Awards. The annual awards honor women from Penn State and the local community who embody the "Spirit of Internationalization" through academic achievements, artistic excellence, volunteerism in international organizations or dedication to advancing the status of women. Faculty, staff students and community members can learn more about the accomplishments of the award winners at the International Women's Day Breakfast, to be held at 8:30 a.m. on March 13 at the Nittany Lion Inn. Attendees are asked to RSVP by noon on Friday, March 9.

Global Programs workshop prepares faculty for students' travel abroad

When traveling abroad, experienced globetrotters know to expect a few glitches along the way. When a professor is traveling abroad with a handful of students or more, the Penn State Office of Global Programs knows all too well anything can happen. Last year alone -- with Egypt's political turmoil and natural disasters in Japan, New Zealand and Bangkok -- Global Programs' plans to ensure the safety of University students abroad were tested in a variety of ways. Several times a semester, Global Programs staff hold workshops to teach faculty what they've learned from these experiences. They also hold a a workshop focusing on issues traditionally handled by the Office of Student Conduct, held this year on Friday, Feb. 17.

Nominations are being accepted for the Spirit of Internationalization Award which acknowledges women from Penn State University and the local community who excel in academic achievements, artistic excellence, volunteerism in international organizations or dedication to advancing the status of women. The award will be presented by Penn State's University Office of Global Programs at their fifth annual breakfast in celebration of International Women's Day. It will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, in the boardroom of the Nittany Lion Inn.

Global Programs hosts Third Annual Penn State Around the World

Students can chat face-to-face with other Penn State students studying across the globe at Penn State Around the World from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the Global Programs Lounge in 410 Boucke Building. The third annual event will give University Park students the chance to ask fellow Penn Staters why they chose their program and destination and what they liked about it.
