Coaches Vs. Cancer of Penn State raises record amount in 2009-10
Coaches Vs. Cancer of Penn State posted a record of $207,050 in net funds raised for 2009-10 fiscal year, an increase of nearly $30,000 over the organization's previous yearly fund raising record. The 2010-11 campaign kicked off with a grand opening event at Kildare's Irish Pub and the upcoming annual Reverse Car Drawing on Sept. 23rd at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Penn State coaches earn stellar Academic Progress Rate scores
The consistently high Academic Progress Rate scores annually earned by Penn State student-athletes are reflected in today's initial compilation of APR scores for head coaches in six sports. The National Collegiate Athletic Association's release of APR data starting with the 2003-04 academic year shows that the five Penn State head coaches consistently produce teams who beat the average Division I APR score for their respective sport. The NCAA announced yearly APR scores for all Division I head coaches in baseball (Robbie Wine), men's basketball (Ed DeChellis), women's basketball (Coquese Washington), football (Joe Paterno), and women's indoor and outdoor track and field (Beth Alford-Sullivan).
Men's basketball announces non-conference slate
The Nittany Lion basketball team will face five teams that reached the postseason and won more than 20 games in 2009-10 in an 11-game, 2010-11 non-conference slate announced Wednesday (July 14). Times and television arrangements will be determined and announced at a later date. Highlighting the difficult slate will be road trips to Mississippi (Friday, Nov. 26), a team that went 21-10 and reached the NIT semifinals, and Virginia Tech (Sunday, Dec. 12), which went 23-8 and reached the NIT third round, and an ACC/Big Ten Challenge home date with Maryland (Wednesday, Dec. 1), which went 24-9 and earned a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Beautiful weather, generous sponsors and nearly 350 participants and celebrities combined to make the 14th Annual Coaches Vs. Cancer Celebrity Golf Tournament a rousing success as the Penn State CVC Program, under the leadership of coach Ed DeChellis, wrapped up a record breaking year of fund raising. Penn State Coaches vs. Cancer will eclipse $185,000 in net funds raised for 2009-10, and could reach as high as the $200,000 plateau as donations continue to roll in from the "Coach's Challenge" campaign through the end of the organization's fiscal year in August.
Contract extension announced for men's basketball coach DeChellis
Penn State has extended the contract of Nittany Lion Basketball coach Ed DeChellis, adding three years to the extension he received in 2006. Tim Curley, Director of Athletics, announced that he and DeChellis have agreed on a contract replacing his current pact that will keep him at the helm of the Nittany Lion program through the 2013-14 season. In keeping with University policy, specific terms of the agreement were not released.
DeChellis joins ACS in calling for action on Capitol Hill
Just two days before hosting his own event to continue to raise funds in the fight against cancer, Penn State coach Ed DeChellis joined fellow NCAA coaches Mike Brey (Notre Dame), John Thompson III (Georgetown), Oliver Purnell (Clemson) and Tubby Smith (Minnesota) and 6,000 American Cancer Society representatives in Washington, D.C. to meet with congressmen and senators and push for action on Capitol Hill.

Many famous faces from Nittany Lion sports history and the national sports scene will be in attendance when coach Ed DeChellis hosts events for the 13th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Celebrity Golf Tournament, June 4-5 in State College. The event, which raised nearly $180,000 last year and broke the $1 million threshold in total funds raised to fight cancer, continues to attract 100's of golfers from the Centre Region and a strong cast of local and national celebrities.
DeChellis to be inducted into Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame
Penn State men's basketball coach Ed DeChellis will be inducted into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, April 26 in a banquet event at The FEZ in Aliquippa, Pa. DeChellis, a Monaca, Pa. native who led the Nittany Lions to a school record 27 wins and first ever national tournament title last season, will be joined in the Class of 2009 by Arizona basketball coach Sean Miller and former NFL All-Pro Sean Gilbert. Two other Penn State graduates are also in the class - current Mount Lebanon girls basketball coach Dori (Anderson) Oldaker and former Nittany Lion football player Matt Yanosich. Gene Matsook, Alan Guandolo, Jeff Catanzarite, Frank Susnell and Joe Tronzo complete the class of 2009.

Get up close to the legend himself at three "Evening with Joe" events, co-sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association and the Nittany Lion Club. Coach Paterno will be at a legendary New York City landmark, The Plaza, on April 30 for a reception and program. This event, co-sponsored by the New York City Chapter of the Nittany Lion Club and the Penn State Alumni Association, will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a reception of hors d'oeuvres and an open bar. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m.
DeChellis named Big Ten Coach of the Year by conference media
Penn State coach Ed DeChellis was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year by conference media voters and sophomore guard Talor Battle (Albany, N.Y.) earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from both conference coaches and media when the Big Ten post-season awards were announced Monday. Senior forward Jamelle Cornley (Columbus, Ohio) also earned second-team selection from the media and third-team honors from the coaches and senior guard Stanley Pringle(Virginia Beach, Va.) was an honorable-mention pick from both. Andrew Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) was named Penn State's sportsmanship award winner.

The head coaches of the Penn State's men's and women's programs will headline the Central PA Basketball Preview dinner taking place on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the West Shore Country Club in Camp Hill, Pa.
