The community is invited to attend a special screening of a documentary on bullying. This screening will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at noon in Swimmer Hall, located in the Williams building at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. This event is free and open to the public.

At just 8 years old, Ashley Fazekas is a veteran of Penn State's annual dance marathon, better known as THON. Ashley was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) as a toddler and had her last treatment at the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital four years ago. Ashley's parents hope a new Penn State Public Broadcasting documentary about THON will inspire others to join the battle against childhood cancer. "Why We Dance: The Story of THON" will air at 8 p.m. Eastern time tonight (Sept. 27) on WPSU-TV and public television stations across Pennsylvania and through a live, online stream of the premiere at http://wpsu.org/. then posted to Vimeo and YouTube at 9 p.m.

Like drawing back a curtain to let light stream in, the documentary "Miss Representation" details a glaring reality we live with but might fail to see: how the media contributes to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence in America.

The public is invited to attend a free screening of the Academy-Award winning documentary, "Born into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids," at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the auditorium of the Penn State Beaver Student Union Building.

The film, which is the second in Beaver's 2011-12 Global Film Series, traces the lives of children born to prostitutes in poverty-stricken areas of Calcutta, India.
Filmmakers Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman entered Calcutta's red light district to provide a view of daily life for prostitutes and their children. Briski and Kauffman connected with the children by showing them how to use photography to bring their daily existence into focus. Throughout the documentary, the children interact with both eager and reluctant camera subjects and become adept at showing all aspects of their lives.

Penn State Public Broadcasting is producing a documentary that will chronicle THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. For the Kids: Penn State's Dance Marathon will follow students balancing classes, homework and exams while maintaining a tireless commitment to THON. The 60-minute television program will document this yearlong undertaking -- beginning with the selection of the overall committee, and culminating on that magical weekend in February. More than 200 Penn State Beaver students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the public, gathered on campus last week for a free evening screening of the award-winning documentary, 'The Anatomy of Hate - A Dialogue to Hope,' directed by Michael Ramsdell. The 90-minute film was followed by an informal discussion and question-and-answer session with the audience and Ramsdell. The event was coordinated by Robin Schreck, coordinator of student activities/residence life, and sponsored by the Campus Climate and Diversity Committee. An on-campus screening of a documentary about suicide and its survivors produced by a team of senior faculty members and students in the College of Communications will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in Carnegie Cinema on Penn State's University Park campus.
