Penn State Fayette to offer SAT Prep Courses
Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus is offering a five-week SAT Prep Course for high school students. The course is designed to help students best prepare for an important part of their college admissions process.
The course includes strategies and techniques for taking the test and a review of verbal and math concepts. Students will also work on how to tackle the essay portion of the test. The 2013 spring SAT test dates are March 9, May 4 and June 1.
Educators, therapists, counselors can earn graduate credits
The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will offer "Counseling and Teaching Youth at Risk," a three-credit graduate class for teachers and counselors, 5-8:30 p.m., Thursdays, March 1 through May 3 at Lincoln Junior-Senior High School in Ellwood City, Pa.
This course is designed to provide educators, counselors, therapists, psychologists and other health-education professionals with an overview of information focused on counseling and teaching youth-at-risk.
Continuing Education offers course for CLE credit
The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education has been approved by Penn State Abington to offer a course in "Unclaimed Property," 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, Room 16 of the Student Union Building. The course is designed for individuals who must meet requirements for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit. Course fee is $40.

Hands-on course offers ideas on integrating technology into curriculum
There's still time to register for the Tech.it.U Institute, a course offered by Penn State York and hosted at Central York High School July 11-15. This new institute is designed to inspire and generate practical classroom ideas that will help educators teach with power and focus to impact the future of their students by integrating technology into their curriculum. This weeklong institute can be taken for graduate credit or for Act 48 hours. Sessions begin at 8 a.m. and end at 4:15 p.m.
More than 60 educators are registered for the institute which features keynote speakers with topics including "From Smart Toilets to Smart Schools" on Monday; "Making Connections: 21st Century Skills, H.E.A.T. and Student Achievement" on Tuesday; "Learning in a Networked World" on Wednesday; "21st Century Classroom - What the Heck?" on Thursday; and "The Benjamin Button Effect" on Friday.
Mathematics of Money is New Course at Penn State
Penn State University's Department of Mathematics is offering a new course, titled "The Mathematics of Money," which will allow students to learn mathematical techniques in the context of life's financial decisions, such as those involving interest, annuities, investments, retirement plans, taxes, credit cards, and mortgages. The course is being offered at University Park for the first time during the spring 2010 semester. It is intended for students in non-technical majors who need credit in mathematics to meet the University's general-education requirements. "This course is important because it teaches students how to understand and use mathematical formulas to solve financial problems," said Cheryl Hile, a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics. "The goal is to help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to make sound financial decisions."
