Penn State takes action to exceed Clery Act requirements

Penn State's Clery compliance coordinator, Gabriel Gates, said the University "strives to exceed the requirements of the Clery Act," a federal law related to campus safety, during a presentation today (Nov. 16) to the Board of Trustees.

"We aim to build a higher education community standard of excellence," Gates said about his work providing administrative and advisory support to senior management and the University-wide community. "We attempt to create an open and proactive forum that will raise awareness of campus safety initiatives and crime prevention techniques."

Annual security and fire safety report now available online

Penn State's annual security and fire safety report, titled "Policies, Safety, and U," is now available at http://www.police.psu.edu/cleryact/documents/UniversityParkPolicySafetyU.... Federal law requires the University to publish an annual security and fire safety report and make it available to all current students and employees.

The report includes several University campus safety and security policy statements and crime statistics for the past three years. The policy statements address the University's policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security, for example, responding to emergency situations and sexual assaults. Paper copies for any Penn State campus are available upon request; contact the University's compliance coordinator at 30 Eisenhower Parking Deck, University Park, PA 16802, or by email at grg125@psu.edu.

State College police seek armed robbery suspect

State College Police report that an armed robbery occurred at 924 Bellaire Ave., State College, between 9 and 9:30 a.m. today (Aug. 7). Police say two men forced their way into an apartment at that location and stole cash and property belonging to the residents. Anyone with any information pertaining to this incident should contact Detective Steve Bosak of the State College Police Department at 814-234-7150, call CrimeStoppers at 877-992-7463 or submit an anonymous tip at http://statecollegepa.us/forms.aspx?fid=52 online.

Update: State police reopen I-99

Pennsylvania State Police have reopened I-99 near exit 76 (Shiloh Road.) They closed the area at about 3:15 p.m. in response to a report of a suspicious device found near that exit. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

Pennsylvania State Police are responding to a report of a suspicious device found near exit 76 (Shiloh Road) of I-99. That area of the road will be closed until further notice. Those who normally use that road are asked to avoid the area and use a different route. Updates will be provided as they become available.

State College police seek information on reported indecent assault

The State College Police Department is investigating a reported indecent assault that occurred between 2:40 and 3 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, on the 400 block of East Calder Way near Sowers Street near Penn State's University Park campus. Anyone with information about this assault is asked to contact the State College Police Department at 814-234-7150, submit an anonymous tip through the web at http://www.statecollegepa.us or phone Centre County Crime Stoppers at 877-992-7463.

University security personnel to take part in Clery Act training

Through a partnership with the nonprofit Clery Center for Security on Campus (CCSOC), Penn State safety and security personnel, as well as others, will participate in state-of-the-art Clery Act compliance training on June 20 and 21 on the University Park campus. Enacted in 1990, the Clery Act is a federal law that requires colleges and universities in the United States to maintain precise records and openly report criminal activity on campus. Each year, the Clery Center trains hundreds of school officials and administrators to comply with the letter of the law and embrace the spirit of safety it is intended to support.
