The Penn State Beaver Office of Career Services announced that it now offers access to a new career assistance program. Gov. Tom Corbett recently unveiled Pennsylvania Career Coach, a first-of-its-kind, statewide, free online tool designed to help Pennsylvania students and job seekers make informed, lasting career choices. Developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, Career Coach provides updated local employment data such as current and projected job openings, recent job growth areas, estimated earnings and occupations that match a user's current skills and knowledge, as well as specific educational programs in the local area that will prepare an individual for a given occupation.

Nittany Networking Event set for Nov. 14 at Pittsburgh food bank

Penn State students and alumni in western Pennsylvania are invited to make new connections, enhance existing relationships and experience community sharing at a Nittany Networking Event from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 14, at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (GPCFB) in Duquesne. The GPCFB distributes approximately 27 million pounds of food per year from its 94,000 square foot warehouse. The event will offer light refreshments and networking opportunities as well as a tour of this award-winning Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified "green" warehouse.
Scott Phillips receives National Science Foundation Career Award

Scott Phillips, assistant professor of chemistry at Penn State and holder of the Martarano Career Development Professorship, has been honored with a Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The CAREER award is the most prestigious award given by the NSF in support of junior faculty members who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent teaching, and the integration of education and research. The CAREER award provides five years of funding and is given to assistant professors by the NSF directorates at different times during the year.

The event will be held from noon until 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 4, in the Agricultural Engineering Building at Penn State's University Park campus.
