Penn State Brandywine's annual Spring Soiree will be held on Friday, April 12 at the Phoenixville Foundry in Phoenixville. This formal event is from 7-11 p.m. and is open to the public. The Spring Soiree brings friends, alumni and the community together for an exciting night of celebration and entertainment. All proceeds benefit Penn State Brandywine students. Last year's Soiree raised more than $40,000 for student scholarships.

This semester Penn State Brandywine has begun using software that allows students to share their skills, achievements and experience with the virtual world. Readabout.me acts as an online resume, helping students and alumni communicate their successes to potential employers and graduate schools through a personalized profile.

"Penn State University Brandywine The Vagina Monologues" will be held on campus at 6:30 p.m. March 22 and at 2 p.m. March 23, in the Main Building Auditorium, Room 101.

Faculty, staff, students and Penn State alumni will serve as actors and volunteers for the performance, which aims to educate the campus and local community about sexual violence against women and girls while raising funds for the cause. Brandywine is one of 5,800 organizations worldwide to host a performance of "The Vagina Monologues."

Marple Newtown High School basketball prodigy Bobbi Caprice reached a career landmark on Jan. 11 when she scored her 1,000th point for Penn State Brandywine.

The four-year starting guard was 5 points away from reaching the milestone before Friday night's game but reached her goal a mere 10 minutes into the first half to help Brandywine in a 65-48 home win over Penn State Schuylkill.

"It was a bit nerve wracking going into the game because all my family and friends were there, but I felt confident having 5 points to go," Caprice said. "Once I hit my first shot it was a relief to know I only needed one more basket." She becomes only the fifth women's basketball player to reach this goal in campus history.

Philadelphia painter and muralist Ann Northrup will speak at Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. as part of the campus' Spring Speaker Series.

"Make sure your career supports your goals, not the other way around." This important advice was bestowed upon Penn State Brandywine's graduating class at their Dec. 21 Commencement Ceremony by fellow Penn Stater and keynote speaker Mike Arata.

Penn State Brandywine Associate Professor of Earth Science Laura Guertin has proved to be a great inspiration to students at the campus, at University Park and throughout the region when it comes to the fair trade movement.

Guertin, whose students' months-long effort earned the Brandywine campus a fair trade designation last summer, reflected on the experience in October as a presenter at the Fair Trade Campaigns Conference in Chicago.

Junior Sarah DeMartino, who led the fair trade movement at the campus before transferring to University Park this fall to complete a degree in international relations, is a National Steering Committee Member of Fair Trade Universities and led two workshops on "Working with your Administration" and "Effective Social Networking."

Penn State Brandywine Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) Marinda Kathryn Harrell-Levy, who is new to campus this semester, was invited by the Alabama Department of Public Health to present at a live satellite conference and webcast about healthy communication between parents and teens on Monday, Oct. 29.
