UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- As directed by the chairman of the Board of Trustees, the Governance Committee is conducting a comprehensive review, over the course of the next two board meetings, and will develop a specific set of reform recommendations to present to the full board for action. Any recommendations will be made public at that time.
Ag industry leader Masser elected as new chair of Penn State Board

Keith E. Masser is the new chairman of the Penn State Board of Trustees, replacing Karen B. Peetz, who did not seek re-election.
In picking 2013 officers today (Jan. 18), the trustees elected Masser as chairman and Stephanie N. Deviney as vice-chairman.
Elected to the board by delegates from agricultural societies in 2008, Masser rose to vice chairman in 2012. He's the chairman and CEO of Sterman Masser Inc., a family owned and operated 5,000-acre potato growing, packing and shipping company based in central Pennsylvania. As part of two initiatives aimed at helping alumni voters make informed voting decisions in the upcoming Penn State Board of Trustees election, the Penn State Alumni Association today (April 9) launched its "Three Questions for the Candidates" website -- http://pennstatermag.com/bot2012 -- that includes responses from alumni trustee candidates to key issues facing the University.
Report of the Board of Trustees concerning Nov. 9 decisions

The Pennsylvania State University Board of Trustees has been asked by members of the Penn State community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, to state clearly its reasons for the difficult decisions that were made unanimously on the evening of Nov. 9, 2011 -- to remove Graham Spanier as president of the University and Joe Paterno as head football coach for the remaining three games of the 2011 season. Our decisions were guided by our obligation as Trustees, always, to put the interests of the University first.
We share the grief of the entire Penn State family at the passing of Coach Paterno. We also continue to respect and appreciate Dr. Spanier's and Coach Paterno's lasting contributions to Penn State. We especially honor the great legacy of Coach Paterno in making his football program a model for his emphasis on academic as well as athletic performance and for his generous support of Penn State through the years.
We offer this report guided by one overriding commitment going forward -- to remember the children who may have been victims of sexual abuse on or near the University Park campus over the last 10 or more years and to support their healing process as best we can.
Frazier to chair special investigation committee

The Board of Trustees today (Nov. 11) announced that Trustee Ken Frazier will serve as chair of the special investigation committee they announced on Nov. 8. Education Secretary and Trustee Ron Tomalis will serve as the vice chair. The committee will undertake a full and complete investigation of the circumstances that gave rise to the grand jury report. The committee will be commissioned to determine what failures occurred, who is responsible and what measures are necessary to ensure that this never happens again.

The Penn State Board of Trustees met today (Nov. 11) on the University Park campus. In his remarks, President Rodney Erickson thanked the board for its confidence in him and the other members of Penn State's administrative team, and expressed his commitment to move forward.
Trustees announce 2 officials to step down while case is investigated

Following an executive session held Sunday night (Nov. 6), members of Penn State's Board of Trustees and President Graham Spanier received a request from athletic director Tim Curley to be placed on administrative leave so he can devote the time needed to defend himself against recent allegations by the Pennsylvania Attorney General. Gary Schultz, interim senior vice president for finance and business, will step down so that he also can defend himself and return to retirement.
University mourns death of Trustee Emeritus Schaffer

Penn State officials on Saturday reported the death of Trustee Emeritus Stanley G. Schaffer on Friday, Jan. 28. Schaffer served as a member of Penn State's Board of Trustees from 1976 until 1992. He was president of Duquesne Light from 1968 until his retirement in 1983.
