9/1/02On May 31, 1889, one of the worst floods in American history swept through Johnstown, Pennsylvania, killing 2,209 people, destroying 1,880 homes and businesses, and resulting in $17 million worth of property damage. Since then, Johnstown has experienced several more floods. Yet today, it is a thriving city of over 100,000, touted by Money Magazine as the best small metropolitan city in Pennsylvania.
