Penn State's World Campus reports 22 percent growth

Increasing at more than double the national average, Penn State's online enrollments are the result of the strong partnership between the World Campus and the University's academic colleges and campuses. The number of students learning online through Penn State's World Campus grew 22 percent, from 9,380 to 11,420, from academic year 2010-11 to 2011-12. Enrollments in online courses also increased 19 percent, from 39,219 to 46,693.

Adult student on campus earns state-wide leadership award

Hanna McBean, an adult student at Penn State New Kensington, was named a 2012 recipient of the K. Leroy Irvis Undergraduate Scholarship by the Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education. McBean earned the $1,000 scholarship based on scholarship, interpersonal skills, leadership, writing, speaking and computational skills, extra-curricular activities participation, and a grade-point average above 3.0. The Irvis scholarship places special emphasis on the student's leadership skills and academic record. In addition, she was judged on her essay, "Why I Should Receive a K. Leroy Irvis Scholarship Award?" The essay question was a requirement for all applicants. "Hanna is a highly motivated student with a sense of humor and excellent communication skills," said Angie Fisher, administrative support assistant for student affairs, who nominated McBean for the award. "She exemplifies the qualities of leadership."

Public invited to Admissions Office special events in June

The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will host three free information and application sessions for the public in June in the Student Union Building. An Administration of Justice (AOJ) Information Session will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 8. The Adult Student Application Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 10 in the Student Union Building. The Spend a Summer Evening program will be offered at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, and will allow participants to meet with Beaver campus admissions staff members, faculty, and students to learn about the admissions process, financial aid, Penn State's academic opportunities, and life on and off campus. To register for the events or to obtain more information, contact the Admissions Office at 1-877-JOIN-PSU, br-admissions@psu.edu, www.beaver.psu.edu, or via AOL Instant Messenger at BRAdmissions.

The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office invites adult students to attend a free Application Day 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 10 in the Admissions Office, Student Union Building. Adults interested in returning to or beginning a college degree are welcome to attend, and no registration is required. Participants, who will meet with an admissions counselor, learn about available programs and course offerings, and complete an application, are invited to bring an official grade or course work transcript and could be offered admission to Penn State immediately. The $50 application fee will be waived for most attendees. Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus is focusing on adult students in July, offering extended hours and greater opportunity for one-on-one assistance with specialists in the campus' Admissions Office.

Adult student admissions open house scheduled for March 19

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites adults who are considering starting college or returning to their studies to attend an adult-student undergraduate admissions open house on Thursday, March 19. The open house begins at 5:30 p.m. with a one-hour exhibit fair in Roche Hall, located in the college's School of Science complex. There will be a seminar on admissions and financial aid at 6:30 p.m. in Nick Building, room 171. The evening ends with individual admissions counseling sessions in Nick Building, room 171; Nick Building is also part of the School of Science complex.
