Penn College students' cakes place in top three at Atlantic Bakery Expo

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Two Pennsylvania College of Technology students finished in the top three in their category during the 2018 Cake Extravaganza at the Atlantic Bakery Expo in Atlantic City.

Jacqueline R. Dull, a baking and pastry arts student from Mohnton, received first place in the student tiered wedding cake category, and Taylor M. Bickhart, a baking and pastry arts student from Middleburg, placed third in the same category.

The Atlantic Bakery Expo featured more than 500 exhibitors. It is presented by the New Jersey Bakers Board of Trade and the New York State Association of Manufacturing Retail Bakers.

In addition to the cake competition, Penn College baking and pastry arts students presented trade show floor demonstrations.

Chef Charles R. Niedermyer, instructor of baking and pastry arts/culinary arts, provided classroom lectures on baking trends and techniques in partnership with Guittard Chocolate Co., which donates the chocolate used in the college’s hospitality classes and Le Jeune Chef Restaurant.
