Nutritional sciences' Klees named Outstanding Dietetic Educator of the Year

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Lynn Parker Klees, assistant teaching professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State, was named an Outstanding Dietetic Educator of the Year from the Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Klees accepted her award at the 2018 Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Meeting on April 7 at the Harrisburg-Hershey Holiday Inn Hotel in Grantville, Pennsylvania.

“This award is an affirmation of the commitment I have made to my profession,” Klees said. “I feel so lucky that I love my career. Helping students learn, seeing them graduate, begin their careers, and become successful is the best. To be recognized by my former students and my peers for my teaching is very special and humbling.”

Klees said this recognition is a reflection on the quality of Penn State’s Department of Nutritional Sciences and its commitment to students.

“We all work together to provide our students with a high-quality education,” she said. “If I were a student or parent making a decision about where to attend college, I would appreciate that faculty in the department are recognized for their teaching.”

Klees said this recognition also serves as inspiration to continue to grow and live up to the faith her colleagues and students have in her.

“I am successful at teaching because my colleagues are generous with sharing their best practices, and the University has so many resources to help faculty develop their skills,” she said.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. The Outstanding Dietetic Educator award recognizes the excellence of educators in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics accredited and approved dietetic education programs.
