HERSHEY, Pa. — The Penn State College of Medicine will host a regional workshop with the American Cancer Society from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 14 to introduce participants to the society’s research portfolio and explore the types of competitive grants it awards to cancer researchers. The workshop will take place in the Crescent Building on the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus.
The American Cancer Society awards research grants and fellowships to promising scientists early in their careers who have unique hypotheses for cancer prevention and study. The society also sponsors grants that support training for health professionals seeking to develop their clinical expertise and/or their ability to conduct independent research.
In addition to exploring the grants available to cancer researchers, participants will get an insider’s view of the society’s grant-review process and get useful tips for writing a competitive grant submission.
The featured presenter will be Susanna Greer, director of Clinical Cancer Research, Nutrition and Immunology Program in the extramural grants department. Greer manages peer-review committees focused on clinical cancer research, cancer control and epidemiology, nutrition and the environment, leukemia, immunology, immunotherapy, and blood cell development.
