Penn State Health co-sponsors Trike Race

HERSHEY, Pa. — Dr. Craig Hillemeier, dean of Penn State College of Medicine, CEO of Penn State Health and senior vice president for health affairs at Penn State, will serve as chairman of the 2018 United Way of the Capital Region campaign. The United Way board of directors announced his chairmanship at a luncheon on March 27 in Harrisburg.

Hillemeier served as vice chair of the 2017 campaign, which had a goal of $10.4 million. The total amount raised will also be revealed at the luncheon.

“United Way of the Capital Region touches thousands of people in central Pennsylvania every day,” Hillemeier said. “Its work is crucial to tackling some of the most challenging issues facing individuals and families in our region, including poverty, homelessness and disparities regarding school readiness and access to health care.”

“Dr. Hillemeier was chosen as chair for his exceptional leadership and commitment to moving our community forward,” said Rae Lynn Cox, United Way of the Capital Region vice president of communications and marketing. “He was instrumental in the success of the 2017 campaign as vice chair, making campaign calls and assisting at numerous events.”

Penn State Health will co-sponsor and participate in the United Way of the Capital Region’s annual Trike Race in July at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. Teams from local businesses and organizations race tricycles in a friendly competition to show support for United Way. The 2018 campaign will kick off with the United Way Day of Caring on Sept. 7 when the 2018 goal is announced.

United Way of the Capital Region works to improve lives in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties by identifying the most pressing community needs, finding solutions to those needs, and demonstrating how these solutions are making a difference.
