UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Ash Beckham will present "Give Voice to Your Truth" at 7 p.m. on March 21, in the HUB-Robeson Center Flex Theatre on the University Park campus of Penn State.
The LGBTQA Student Resource Center, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, will host Beckham, who speaks about empathy, respect and the power of having real conversations.
Beckham never intended on being a public speaker. Before she started speaking, Beckham was a successful entrepreneur, organizing and managing events: from youth sports tournaments to music festivals to trade shows. In 2013, she felt a deep desire to make an impact in her community. In February 2013, she gave her first public speech at Ignite Boulder, addressing the pejorative use of the word "gay.” The message resonated far beyond Boulder with over half a million views and still ranks as the most viewed Ignite talk of all time. The course of her life was changed forever.
With over 300 public talks under her belt, including at Harvard University, Proctor & Gamble and the CIA, Beckham now is a highly sought-after diversity, inclusion and leadership keynote speaker. Online videos of her TEDx talks “Coming Out of Your Closet” and "Owning Your Duality" have gone viral with more than 8 million YouTube views. Significantly, her message has also become a topic of global discussion. Beckham continues to reach millions as her inspiring speeches are experienced in classrooms, boardrooms and auditoriums around the world.
