Penn State Smeal S.T.A.R.T. Conference promotes diversity in business

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Business leaders from Altria, Ayco, Boeing, Eaton, EY, Frito Lay, Inroads, Johnson & Johnson, Kohl’s, Lockheed Martin, L’Oreal, and PwC will join students, faculty and administration from the Penn State Smeal College of Business on March 29 to discuss business initiatives in diversity at the 19th annual S.T.A.R.T. Conference.

The conference, organized by Smeal students, kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at the Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State’s University Park campus. The event is free and open to all Penn State students, staff and faculty. Attendees should preregister online.

S.T.A.R.T. (Striving Toward Awareness and Respect for Tomorrow) is a professional development conference designed to increase awareness in corporate settings. It includes networking opportunities and workshops on diversity, awareness and corporate initiatives.

Bernie Ramsey, manager of diversity outreach events and programs at Lockheed Martin, will deliver the morning keynote address at 9:45 a.m. Ramsey graduated from Smeal with a bachelor’s degree in management with a human resources concentration.

Angela Guy, senior vice president of diversity and inclusion for L’Oreal USA, will deliver the closing remarks at 12:30 p.m. Guy holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Penn State.
