Water showcase to connect researchers across University

Water, in abundant quantities and high quality, is critical to agriculture, energy, industry and every other aspect of human society. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A showcase and networking event for researchers focused on water will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, in 110 Henderson Building at University Park. The event also will be available through Zoom.

The Water Research and Education Initiative is hosting the event to give researchers the opportunity to learn about Penn State water research, teaching and extension projects and activities, and to identify potential collaborators for future water activities. It is a follow-up event to the town hall meeting held on Feb. 15 and the University Water Forum held in November 2017.

“Penn Staters who are involved in water research, education and outreach do not necessarily know who else is doing similar work at the University,” said Odette Mina, Energy and Environmental Sustainability Laboratories managing director. “This event will provide water researchers an opportunity to meet one another and to learn about ongoing research, as well as identify collaboration opportunities.”

The event will feature lightning talks, where researchers will present for three to five minutes about their water-related research. Individuals interested in presenting can apply on the Water Research and Education website by March 15.

There will be an informal reception and poster session following the presentations at 5 p.m. for those attending at University Park. To share a poster, email iee@psu.edu by March 15.

The Water Research and Education Initiative has four primary goals:

  • To develop community and coordination among water scientists at Penn State;
  • To energize water scientists at Penn State to push across boundaries in research, education and outreach;
  • To provide mentorship opportunities to water scientists at Penn State; and
  • To develop interdisciplinary leaders who utilize the great breadth and depth of expertise across Penn State to lead on water issues worldwide.

For more information about the showcase, contact Bob Caccese at rtc5057@psu.edu. For more information about the Water Research and Education Initiative, visit the water research and education website or contact Odette Mina at odette.mina@psu.edu.

The Water Showcase is sponsored through the Institutes of Energy and the Environment, under the auspices of Penn State’s Vice President for Research, Neil Sharkey.
