Penn State Executive Programs adds middle management program to spring portfolio

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Executive Programs, part of the Smeal College of Business, has introduced a new open-enrollment offering designed for mid-level managers among its spring and fall programs. Registration for all programs is now open.

The three-part “Developing Middle Managers” program is delivered on the Penn State University Park campus. It is designed to improve a manager’s ability to support organizational strategy and initiatives. The program is delivered in three two-day modules:

  • Module 1: Effective Management Practices — Teaches contemporary and foundational management practices. It covers traits and values of mid-level managers, business management tools, and techniques for performance management and feedback.
  • Module 2: Improving Personal Effectiveness — Provides strategies for communication and problem solving. It will help to advance interpersonal skill at influencing others and resolving conflict. Tools for effective presentations and project management also are included.
  • Module 3: Organizational Cultures and Change — Covers ways to manage change and build a culture for success and resilience through employee involvement and cooperation. Techniques for monitoring and sustaining change will be included.

Online resource tools complement the experience to drive the learning home.

Developing Middle Managers runs April 30-May 1, May 30-31, and June 14-15. The modules must be completed sequentially. All three modules will repeat in the fall.

Penn State Executive Programs will also once again offer the SHRM Certification Exam Prep Course beginning March 24.

The exam helps prepare individuals for the Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certifications. The certification has been accredited by the Buros Center for Testing, a pronouncement that the HR credentials meet the highest standards in testing.

Using the SHRM Learning System, content is delivered in a convenient model that blends in-class sessions with instructor-led webinars.
