NEW KENSINGTON, Pa.— The Penn State New Kensington Alumni Society is gearing up for its annual Alumni Bowlathon from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 11 at Wildlife Lanes in Lower Burrell.
Hosted by the local society of the Penn State Alumni Association, the Bowlathon is open to all levels of bowlers. The family-friendly event is an opportunity for businesses to support the society’s efforts to make a difference in the lives of Penn State New Kensington students through scholarships.
In 2017, the Alumni Society surpassed raising $134,000 for student scholarships through its endowed scholarship fund, which was initiated in 1992. Proceeds from the bowlathon are directed to the scholarship fund.
Last year, six students benefited from scholarships from the society, enabling them to attend or stay at Penn State to further their education and impact their future.
This year’s event goal is to raise $10,000.
Event sponsorships are available for $500 and $250. Lane sponsorships are available for $100 and $50.
Bowler registration is $20 and includes three games of bowling and shoe rental.
In addition to the fun to be had on the lanes, the event will also include a live D.J., various raffles and prizes.
The event is chaired by John Spadaro. A 1982 graduate of Penn State and current vice president of the Penn State New Kensington Alumni Society, Spadaro has chaired the event since its inception 16 years ago.
