UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — This year’s Penn State Capital Day will take place on Tuesday, March 13, in Harrisburg, and will feature meetings between the Penn State community and Pennsylvania elected officials, as well as a high-energy rally in the Capitol rotunda capping the day’s events.

Capital Day is a collaborative effort of Penn State and the Alumni Association. Every year, Penn Staters gather in Harrisburg to speak up for governmental support of Penn State. Each Capital Day is an opportunity to show our love and loyalty for Penn State by helping to maintain and improve the value of a Penn State education through advocating during in-person meetings with state legislators.

How to sign up
Register at alumni.psu.edu/capitalday; after signing up, we will place you on a team for the day and set up a meeting time for you and your state legislator to speak about the issues.

At the event, be sure to sign in, gather informational materials, and have fun!

What to expect
Expect to see the Penn State Grassroots Network, Penn State alumni, network volunteers and Penn State student government groups speaking up about the importance of supporting Penn State. Also, be prepared to see a great display of Penn State pride as volunteers participate in activities including:

  • a legislative briefing and advocacy training session in the Forum Auditorium;
  • a midday rally in the Capitol rotunda, featuring members of the Penn State Blue Band, the Nittany Lion mascot and free Berkey Creamery ice cream; and
  • visits to legislators’ offices.

How to prepare
The most important thing to remember as an advocate is your personal connection to Penn State. Share an impactful memory with your state representative about the positive impact of Penn State and the importance of supporting Penn State.

The following videos are great tools to better prepare yourself for Capital Day and meeting with your state representative.

Below are important key messages to remember from the videos.

  • Engage online via Penn State Grassroots Network’s social media channels, like Facebook and Twitter, and blog.
  • Recruit your friends and family to join you in speaking up for Penn State.
  • Know the issues.
  • Stay on message.
  • Be polite and respectful.

Continue to speak up
