LLAED Graduate Student Association seeks members
The Lifelong Learning and Adult Education (LLAED) Graduate Student Association currently is being re-established and is looking for graduate student members. Members have an opportunity to network with a robust LLAED network and obtain additional funding for conferences.
Volunteers also are needed to fill the following leadership positions: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, director of outreach, director of marketing and director of programming.

Staples to speak on 'Why I Do What I Do'
Jeanine Staples, associate professor of education (language and literacy education) and African-American studies, will speak about the work she does, how she discovered her vocation, and how this work reflects and fulfills her values and beliefs at DiscernPSU's lecture series, "Why I Do What I Do." Her talk will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Krause Innovation Studio, located on the second floor of Chambers Building. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.
Lion Leadership Conference set for March 25
The annual Lion Leadership Conference (LLC), a student-run conference organized by Lion Scouts, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at The Atherton Hotel. The event will consist of break-out presentations and panel sessions, as well as lunch with networking and recruiting opportunities.
Lion Leadership Conference is a conference designed to engage students campus-wide in leadership development and networking with student, faculty and industry leaders. Lion Leadership Conference provides an opportunity for students to establish and enhance their leadership skills through workshops with leaders in the community, academia and industry. Nominations for Outstanding Adult Student Award now open
Penn State Student Affairs is accepting nominations for the Outstanding Adult Student Award. The award recognizes an adult or veteran student at University Park, who has overcome obstacles and multiple roles in furthering his/her education, serves as a role model to other students and achieves academically.
All nominees will be invited to attend the award reception on Thursday, April 5, where they will receive a certificate and a finalist will be announced. The finalist is then invited to attend the division’s award ceremony. The finalist will receive a $500 grant from the Adult Learner Opportunity Fund as well as a Penn State University diploma case.

Libraries offers $1,250 award for outstanding undergraduate thesis
Penn State University Libraries is accepting submissions for the seventh annual competition for the Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis Award. The competition aims to find the best thesis by a Penn State undergraduate student in consultation with his or her adviser, with the winner receiving $1,250. Awards of $750 and $500 are presented to the second- and third-place recipients, respectively.
Undergraduate students from all Penn State campuses who graduated in summer or fall 2017 or plan to graduate in spring 2018 are eligible for the spring 2018 award. The competition includes a review of the submitted theses by a faculty jury and oral presentations by the students chosen as finalists. The deadline for submissions is April 9.

Global Programs seeks orientation leaders
Global Programs is seeking multiple orientation leaders (both undergraduate and graduate) to work during International Student Orientation (ISO).
Students will help Penn State welcome incoming international students by facilitating information sessions, guide students to events/social gatherings and move students from temporary housing to permanent on-campus housing. Previous experience living abroad or working with diverse groups is a plus. This is a great resume addition and opportunity to improve leadership skills.
Orientation leaders can work summer 2018 orientation (June 21-24) and/or fall 2018 orientation (graduate orientation: Aug. 5-8, undergraduate orientation: Aug. 9-15).

Faculty invited to apply for 2018-19 teaching transformation, innovation grants
The Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence is now accepting proposals from faculty for its 2018-19 Teaching Transformation & Innovation Grants competition. This grant program supports innovative instructional methods, experimental or unusual instructional equipment, guest speakers, field trips, or other activities and materials that further the mission of the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence to advance and inspire teaching excellence in the Penn State teaching and learning community.
The 2018-19 proposal process includes two steps: 1) a pre-proposal consultation, and 2) full proposal development. Individuals or groups that want to be considered for funding need to discuss potential projects with a Schreyer Institute faculty consultant in a pre-proposal consultation before Thursday, March 1. These brief consultations may be in person, by phone, or by email. The consultations save time, improve proposal quality and ensure projects match the Institute’s mission.
