— Mary Elizabeth Higgins, a 2017 alumna of the curriculum and instruction doctoral program, has received the 2018 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the National Association for Professional Development Schools (NAPDS) for "The Influence of Practitioner Research on Teacher Candidates' Beliefs." Her work has been credited in helping the local school community and the field of PDS-teacher education to better understand the influence of inquiry on pre-service teacher development.

— Justin Watts, a 2016 alumnus of the counselor education doctoral program, is the recipient of the New Career in Rehabilitation Education Award, presented by the National Council of Rehabilitation Education. The award recognizes "a rehabilitation educator who is in the first two years of his or her career in rehabilitation education and who has made/is making strong contributions to the field of rehabilitation education." Watts currently is an assistant professor of rehabilitation at the University of North Texas.
