Behrend swimmers sweep Penn State Altoona in four events

ERIE, Pa. — The men’s swimming and diving team at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, swept four events against Penn State Altoona, winning 150-75. Three swimmers — Liam Watterson, Branden McWilliams and Davis Kraft — finished the 50-yard freestyle in less than 24 seconds.

The college’s basketball, volleyball, track and field and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Men’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 69, Mt. Aloysius 50

Penn State Behrend 70, D’Youville 51

The Lions dominated Mt. Aloysius with distance shooting: 17 of the team’s 23 field goals were 3-pointers. Malike Brinson, a junior from Erie, scored six, finishing with a career-high 18 points.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 65, Mt. Aloysius 54

D’Youville 74, Penn State Behrend 69

The Lions held Mt. Aloysius to just 10 points in the fourth quarter. Autumn Byes, a freshman from Erie, grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds — the seventh-best performance in program history.

Men’s track and field

Zach Wortman, a freshman from St. Mary’s, set his second school record in six days in the 5K at Spire. He finished in 15:34.75, placing 17th.

Women’s track and field

Haley Yenchik, a junior from Cecil, set a school record in the pole vault at Spire, clearing a height of 3.52 meters. She qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships. Rachel Pell, a senior from Elizabeth, set a school record in the 400-meter run, finishing in 58.78 seconds.

Wittenberg 3, Penn State Behrend 1

St. John Fisher 3, Penn State Behrend 2

Penn State Behrend 3, Hiram 1

Dillon Hildebrand, a sophomore from Red Lion, had a career-best 23 kills against St. John Fisher. He added 11 digs.

Men’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 150, Penn State Altoona 75

The team swept four events against Penn State Altoona. Liam Watterson, a freshman from Brentwood, won the 50 freestyle and the 200 backstroke.

Women’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 131, Penn State Altoona 75

Jessica Wyckoff, a junior from Elma, New York, won the 50 free and the 500 free against Penn State Altoona. She finished in 26.26 and 5:49.96.

Women’s bowling

Pitt-Bradford 3, Penn State Behrend 0
