UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State University Fellowships Office will host “UK Week” from Monday, Jan. 29, through Thursday, Feb. 1, emphasizing prestigious research and graduate study opportunities for students from various academic disciplines.

Undergraduate students are encouraged to attend the information sessions and panel discussion, which will address specific program benefits and best practices for applying.

“Students might not initially consider graduate school in the United Kingdom because of the costs associated with attending school in a different country, but I hope that they consider otherwise after attending this week’s events,” said Caitlin Ting, interim director of the University Fellowships Office. “The United Kingdom is one of the world leaders in academic innovation and research, and there are a number of fellowship opportunities available to help fund their graduate study there.”

The following scholarship and fellowship opportunities will be spotlighted:

  • The Rhodes Scholarship is offered to outstanding seniors and gives them the opportunity to study at the University of Oxford.
  • The Marshall Scholarship is awarded to seniors from all academic backgrounds who wish to pursue graduate studies in the U.K.
  • The Mitchell Scholarship is intended for seniors who aspire to build upon their intellectual achievement and commitment to community through the program based in Ireland.
  • The St. Andrews Fellowships is aimed at seniors who have proof of some Scottish descent to pursue graduate studies in Scotland.
  • The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is designed for seniors, graduate students and recent alumni who are interested in a wide breadth of scholarly, research and teaching experiences.
  • The Churchill Scholarship is awarded to students from science, mathematics and engineering fields to complete one year of master’s study at the University of Cambridge.
  • The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is given to outstanding students who aim to contribute to society and improve the lives of others following up to three years of graduate study at the University of Cambridge.
  • The National Institutes of Health Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program is offered to juniors and seniors who are passionate about biomedical research careers.
