Page earns second Big Ten weekly honor

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Junior guard Teniya Page earned her second nod of the 2017-18 season on the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll, as her efforts versus Rutgers garnered her a spot as one of the three student-athletes named to the conference honor roll for the week of Jan. 15-21.

The selection to the weekly honor roll marks the seventh career Big Ten weekly honor for Page, as she is a three-time Player of the Week selection (2016-17: 11/21, 12/5, 12/19), was selected as the conference Freshman of the Week once (2015-16: 11/21) and now has three nods on the B1G Weekly Honor Roll (2016-17: 2/13; 2017-18: 12/18, 1/22).

Page had a solid scoring night for the Lady Lions and capped her 34-point effort by hitting 4-of-5 free throws with one seconds left in the contest to lift Penn State to a victory over No. 25/21 Rutgers.

Page was fouled shooting a 3-pointer and shot two more free throws after a technical foul was called on the Rutgers bench. On the night, Page hit 12-of-19 shots (63 percent) from the field and 8-of-9 shots (89 percent) from the free throw stripe. Of her 12 made field goals, two were of the 3-point variety.

Page opened the contest by scoring 11 first-quarter points, tallied eight in the second quarter, six in the third and notched nine in the fourth quarter. Her 34 points led all scorers and is the second-highest total of her career, while also sitting tied for No. 9 on the Bryce Jordan Center scoring list.

Her efforts moved her up one spot on the Penn State career scoring chart and into No. 17 all-time, passing Maren Walseth (1998-2001), and marked her sixth career 30-point game, which tie her for No. 3 all-time at Penn State with Kahadeejah Herbert (1982-85).

Currently, Page sits No. 11 among active Division I scorers with a 17.6 career scoring average, while her 1,357 points is No. 77 overall among active student-athletes and No. 14 among active junior scorers in NCAA Division I.

The Big Ten announced Katelynn Flaherty of Michigan and Kenisha Bell of Minnesota as the conference’s Co-Players of the Week, while Page joined Dominique Oden of Purdue and Hannah Whitish of Nebraska on the weekly honor roll. Jaelynn Penn of Indiana was the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
