Men's, women's track and field squads open 2018 in top 25

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- TThe Penn State men's track & field team will start the 2018 indoor track and field season in the top-25 of the national computer rankings, as released Tuesday afternoon by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Both Nittany Lion track and field teams are represented in the rankings with the men's team holding the No. 22 spot, while the women are No. 23 in the preseason rankings.

Head coach John Gondak is in his fourth season at the helm of the men's and women's teams coming off a 2017 indoor season that saw the women's team capture the Big Ten indoor championship while the men placed second – the highest combined finish in program history. It was the 13th-consecutive year the women have been in the top-four at the Big Ten indoor championships. The men's and women's team combined for eight All-American honors at the 2017 NCAA indoor championships in College Station, Texas to close out the season.

The Nittany Lions open the indoor track season hosting this weekend's Nittany Lion Challenge, Saturday, January 13 at 11 a.m. ET.
