UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The public is invited to learn about the art of Japanese drumming through a variety of hands-on activities in a free Taiko Drum Workshop presented by the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, in the Eisenhower Auditorium lobby.
The one-hour workshop, offered in partnership with the Penn State Taiko club, will introduce participants of all ages to visual form, corresponding movement and style. The event is offered in conjunction with the Yamato: The Drummers of Japan performance of “Chousensha — The Challengers” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Eisenhower.
“I hope that when everyone comes together to have fun that their hearts are stirred up by the beats of the drums,” said Medora Ebersole, the center’s education and community programs manager.
No prior experience is required, and no advance registration is needed. Free parking for the workshop will be available in the Eisenhower Parking Deck.
