University response to Coalition of Graduate Employees' request to meet

On Dec. 6, 2017, students representing the Coalition of Graduate Employees (CGE) requested to meet with Penn State administration to discuss a list of demands. After careful consideration of this request, the University has concluded that while the legal process related to CGE’s petition to unionize is ongoing, a meeting with CGE could be misinterpreted as collective bargaining. For this reason, President Eric Barron, Executive Vice President and Provost Nick Jones and Dean of the Graduate School Regina Vasilatos-Younken will not be able to meet with CGE.

The University has been and remains committed to working with its graduate students to maximize their educational experience. Representatives of the Graduate School will continue to meet with students on an individual basis to discuss their concerns, as well as hold regular meetings with the leadership of the Graduate and Professional Student Association, the official and recognized representative body of graduate students at Penn State.
