WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Four classes have been announced for the Spring 2018 semester by Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Workforce Development & Continuing Education Office.
The classes begin in February and will be offered on the college’s main campus.
LogicTREK I – Introduction to PLCs
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 1 and 15; March 1, 15 and 29; April 12 and 26; and May 10
This course introduces the applications, benefits, types and operational fundamentals of common programmable logic controllers. The first in a series of four, this course is designed to raise the functional performance level of maintenance technicians with limited PLC knowledge when tasked with evaluating or troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment in an advanced manufacturing environment. Foundational concepts are developed in preparation for subsequent courses in the series. Participants receive their own copy of interactive PLC simulation software that allows them to practice programming and troubleshooting skills learned throughout the course anytime and anywhere.
Welding – Building Essential Skills
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 3 through April 7
Participants will have opportunities to learn the basic processes of oxy-fuel, shielded-metal arc, gas metal arc and gas tungsten arc welding. The course may be tailored to individual needs with instructor’s approval. Safety is stressed, and skills are developed through hands-on practice.
Fundamentals of GD&T (INT 736)
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 13-15
This course is designed to allow participants to learn the symbols, terminology and rules of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as prescribed in the current standard (ASME Y14.5-2009). Participants will understand the importance of GD&T in relation to traditional coordinate tolerancing, and understand what GD&T is (along with datums, form, orientation, profile, position/symmetry and coaxial features).
Industrial Arc Flash Safety
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, or Friday, March 30
The course emphasizes recognition and safe practices for electrical workers operating in an industrial arc flash environment in accordance with National Fire Protection Association 70E guidelines. This course also emphasizes how to minimize arc flash potential when performing voltage tests, troubleshooting and installing electrical equipment. Proper selection of personal protective equipment and serviceability testing along with other relevant electrical safety topics are covered such as over-current, short circuit and ground fault protection; determining available fault current of transformers; and electrical test equipment ratings. Instruction is a unique blend of lecture, presentation and review of case studies in an interactive discussion format.
