Penn State has joined with hundreds of universities across the country to sign an open letter to Congressional leaders urging them to uphold Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) protections for its beneficiaries. In September, the Department of Homeland Security issued a timeline for rescinding the program.
The open letter — which echoes a similar letter signed by the University and sent to Congress last month — implores members of the Senate and House of Representatives to take action to find long-term legislative solutions to protect “Dreamers,” who are undocumented young people brought to the United States as children. Without action, young adults enrolled in the program will lose their legal status beginning in March 2018.
As previously stated, the University is committed to educating every Penn State student.
The letter was organized by the American Council of Education (ACE) and the Association of Public Land-grant Universities (APLU), and has been signed by universities such as Ohio State University, Michigan State University, Purdue University and Bucknell University.
